Woman Kills Lover’s Wife and Self on Interstate 20

It all began Wednesday afternoon when neighbors of Barnett said they spotted a black Dodge Durango outside of the teacher’s home. The neighbors became suspicious because Barnett had recently replaced the lock on her gate to her backyard after believing that someone had tampered with the latch.

Clayton County police said they believe that the girlfriend of Barnett’s husband was the kidnapper.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted the Durango around noon on Thursday at a truck stop on I-20 near the Waco exit, and a chase ensued.

The driver led officers heading west on Interstate 20 through Carroll and Haralson counties. When the chase crossed state lines, the Alabama State Patrol joined in.

The chase continued to mile marker 208 where the vehicle stopped suddenly while being pursued. According to Clayton County authorities, the suspect reached into the back of the car, retrieved a gun and shot Barnett before turning the gun on herself.

Teen Mother Kills Man over PS4, 16-Month Old in Tow

The alleged shooter in the Friday night incident is a 16-year-old girl whose 16-month-old baby was only feet away at the time of the robbery and shooting, according to Sandy Springs police Sgt. Ron Momon.

Daniel John Zeitz, 28, of Roswell, had listed a PS4 gaming system for sale on Craigslist, and about 9:30 p.m., went to the parking lot of an apartment on Treelodge Parkway to meet a potential buyer, Momon said.

There, he met 20-year-old Nathaniel Vivian and a 16-year-old girl, whose name has not been released.

Momon said the pair tried to rob Zeitz of the PS4, and Vivian, who was in the driver’s seat of a car, struggled with Zeitz, who was standing outside the car, for the gaming system.

During the struggle, the girl fired a shot from a .25 caliber handgun, and the bullet passed through Vivian’s hand and struck Zeitz in the side of his chest, killing him.

…“Detectives also learned that the juvenile’s infant child, approximately 16 months, was in the back seat of the car during the robbery and shooting,” he said.

Employee Shoots Man Dead Becasue He Wouldn’t Leave Waffle House

The Waffle House employee charged with shooting and killing a restaurant customer during an argument Friday morning has been identified as Quintavius Martin, 25.

…The shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. at the 24-hour restaurant on Fulton Industrial Boulevard at Shirley Drive, just south of I-20.

…The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office late this morning identified the dead man as Adrian Mosley, 33, of Atlanta.

Ontray Haley said he was eating in the Waffle House when two men and a woman came in the restaurant.

“The girl got into it first with the security guard and they told her she had to leave the property,” Haley told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “So she left but the other two guys hung around and they told them they had to leave. The cook refused to serve them because they were getting unruly.”

After that, Haley said the two men “got into it with the cook and the guy that got shot, he threatened the cook. He told him, you come outside and I’m going to fire you up, which basically meant he wanted to shoot him.”

Haley said that’s when gunfire broke out.

“It occurred right at the counter,” he said. “It was just chaos; I was ducking for cover like everybody else. I looked up and I saw the guy in the floor, dead.

Haley guessed he heard three or four shots.

“I was too busy ducking,” he said.

The incident was the second fatal shooting at an area Waffle House in the past two weeks.

Second arrest made in MARTA beating of trans women. GA Voice, 5/30/2014.

MARTA officials announced late Friday its police department had arrested and charged a second person in the attack of two trans women on May 20.

Luther L. Thomas was arrested Thursday. Frederick L. Missick, 35, was arrested today. Both are Atlanta residents and both have been charged with disorderly conduct and being held on $2,500 bond.

…The May 20 incident occurred about 11 p.m. on a southbound train headed to the Oakland City Station. The attack was recorded by several people on the train on their cellphones and someone uploaded their video to a website where it went viral on the internet.

Janell Crosby, one of the victims, told GA Voice she and her friends were being harassed while waiting for the train and then the situation escalated into a violent attack and fight on the train.

…Crosby told the GA Voice she tried to report the attack to a MARTA officer the night of the attack. MARTA officials deny ignoring anyone seeking to make a report.

Crosby and Tyra Woods, who [was] stripped naked during the attack, have left Atlanta in the days after the incident.

In the video, it is clear words are being exchanged and Crosby repeatedly tells Thomas to “Stop it.” Thomas then apparently becomes angered with something Crosby says to him and he begins kicking and punching her. Tyra Woods jumps in to try to help and that’s when Missick punches Woods in the face. The women fight back against their attackers for a little over two minutes before the beating stops. Nobody on the train tried to stop the fight or intervene in any way.

GA Police Officer Shot in Back by Rowdy Waffle House Customers

Police said 43-year-old Griffin Police Officer Kevin Jordan, a four-year veteran of the force and father of seven, was shot and killed.

The incident started when Jordan, who was working an off-duty security job, removed three drunken and disruptive customers from inside. Police said Chantell Mixon, 28, put up a fight in the parking lot while Jordan tried to arrest her. Police said Mixon’s boyfriend, 30-year-old Michael Dwayne Bowman, pulled out a gun and shot Jordan at least three times.

…Police said the bullets may have struck him in the shoulder area. Jordan was wearing bullet-proof vest at the time of the shooting, police confirmed.

Jordan’s brother, who had come to the Waffle House to meet with him, witnessed the confrontation and opened fire, hitting Bowman, according to police. Raymond Jordan is a civilian but had a permit to carry a gun, police said.

“My only regret, I don’t want to be bitter. My only regret, I didn’t kill him,” said Raymond Jordan.

Officials Gone Bad: “Slave” Listed as Occupation in Juror Questionnaire, Removed Hour Later

Court Administrator Cathy McCumber told 11Alive, the questionnaire went online a month ago, but is based off an internal list that’s been used for 13 years.

She says the list is 62 pages long, so she’s not sure if the word slave has always been on it, or if it was added before the questionnaire went online.

11Alive and the court learned about the problem Monday morning, after a potential juror filling out the form hit the letter “s” for sales. He says he got “slave” instead.

…The company that designed the software says the drop down menus in the survey are inputted by the user.

“Hopefully it’s just a glitch and hopefully it will be worked out. It doesn’t make sense, but at the same time people make mistakes,” said Anna Wyatt.

McCumber says the word was removed within an hour of learning about it. But figuring out how it got there, and when will take much longer. [emphasis added]

At the courthouse Monday, residents responded with disbelief.

“So they’re saying it’s a mistake? I don’t think so. Why is that even an option? Wow,” said Bridgette Mathis.

“I saw my son shot down….It was ‘Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom'”: Police Kill Unarmed Man

When the officers entered the residence, Jack Lamar Roberson started toward them “aggressively armed with two items used as weapons,’’ Tanner said.

The officers retreated and yelled repeatedly for Roberson to stop and drop the weapons, Tanner said.

The officers retreated as Roberson gained ground on them and raised one of the “weapons in a threatening manner,’’ whereupon the officers fired to prevent their being assaulted, Tanner said.

Tanner read from a prepared statements and referred any additional questions to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the shooting.

The family of the 43-year-old Roberson asserted just before noon Monday as they have all along that he was unarmed and would not harm anyone.

“We had no weapons in this house whatsoever,’’ Roberson’s mother, Diane Roberson, said. “My gentle lamb … He kissed me every morning, made me breakfast in bed, and they said he had two weapons.”

… “I saw my son shot down,’’ and it wasn’t just one shot, she said. “It was ‘Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.”

Man Takes Firefighters Hostage, Demands Cable Be Restored

Minutes before the police announcement on the resolution, a huge blast could be heard a quarter-mile away from the home, shuddering through the Suwanee neighborhood, setting off car alarms.

Earlier Wednesday, five firefighters responded to what seemed like a routine medical call and were eventually taken hostage by an unidentified suspect inside the house, police said. The gunman released one of the firefighters to move a fire truck but held the other four.

Dozens of police and rescue vehicles surrounded the home and a negotiator was keeping in touch with the gunman, police said. The situation remained tense until the blast rocked the neighborhood of mostly two-story homes and well-kept lawns. Residents unable to get into their neighborhood because of the police cordon flinched and recoiled as the enormous blast went off.

Soon after the stun blast, officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect and a SWAT member was shot in the hand or arm, but should be fine, said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter. Ritter would not saw how the gunman was fatally shot, saying it was being investigated.

“The explosion you heard was used to distract the suspect, to get into the house and take care of business,” Ritter said in a news conference minutes after the resolution….

The gunman, who has not been identified, demanded several utilities be restored, Ritter said. According to public records, the home is in foreclosure and has been bank-owned since mid-November.

“It’s an unfortunate circumstance we did not want to end this way,” Ritter said. “But with the decisions this guy was making, this was his demise.”

“I just be in the wrong place at the wrong time with people”: Is Samuel Little a Serial Killer?

Little’s name came up, police said, after DNA evidence collected at old crime scenes matched samples of his stored in a criminal database. After detectives say they found yet another match, a third murder charge was soon added against Little.

Now, as the 72-year-old former boxer and transient awaits trial in Los Angeles, authorities in numerous jurisdictions in California, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi and Ohio are scouring their own cold case files for possible ties to Little. One old murder case, in Pascagoula, Miss., already has been reopened. DNA results are pending in some others. Little’s more than 100-page rap sheet details crimes in 24 states spread over 56 years — mostly assault, burglary, armed robbery, shoplifting and drug violations. In that time, authorities say incredulously, he served less than 10 years in prison.

But Los Angeles detectives allege he was also a serial killer, who traveled the country preying on prostitutes, drug addicts and troubled women.

They assert Little often delivered a knockout punch to women and then proceeded to strangle them while masturbating, dumping the bodies and soon after leaving town. Their investigation has turned up a number of cases in which he was a suspect or convicted. [emphasis added]

How did he “slip through the cracks” with a 100+-page “rap sheet”?:

Then came the 911 call of Sept. 11, 1976, in Sunset Hills, Mo.

Pamela Kay Smith was banging on the back door of a home, crying for help, naked below the waist with her hands bound behind her back with electrical cord and cloth. Smith, who was a drug addict, told officers that she was picked up by Little in St. Louis. She said he choked her from behind with electrical cord, forced her into his car, beat her unconscious, then drove to Sunset Hills and raped her.

Officers found Little, then 36, still seated in his car near the home where Smith sought refuge, with her jewelry and clothing inside. Little denied raping Smith, telling officers: “I only beat her.” The case summary was recalled in court papers filed by prosecutors in Los Angeles. Little was found guilty of assault with the intent to ravish-rape and was sentenced to three months in county jail. Pascagoula Detective Versiga, who reviewed the Smith case, believes Little may have pleaded to a lesser charge and received a shorter sentence because of the victim’s lifestyle. The case file refers to Smith as a heroin addict who often failed to appear in court.

After that, the charges against Little grew more serious. In Pascagoula, [22-year-old prostitute Melinda] LaPree went missing in September 1982 after getting into a wood-paneled station wagon with a man witnesses later identified as Little. A month later her remains were found, and Little was arrested in her killing and the assault of two other prostitutes. Versiga believes grand jurors failed to indict in part because of the difficulty in determining a precise time of death but also because of credibility problems due to the victim and witnesses working as prostitutes.

Little, nevertheless, remained in custody and was extradited to Florida to be tried in the case of another slain woman.

Patricia Ann Mount, 26 and mentally disabled, was found dead in the fall of 1982 in rural Forest Grove, Fla., near Gainesville. Eyewitnesses described last seeing her leaving a beer tavern with a man identified as Little in a wood-paneled station wagon.

According to The Gainesville Sun’s coverage of the trial, a fiber analyst testified that hairs found on Mount’s clothes “had the same characteristics as head hairs taken from” Little. But when cross-examined the analyst said “it was also possible for hairs to be transferred if two people bumped together.”

A jury acquitted Little in January 1984.

By October 1984, Little was back in custody — this time in San Diego, accused in the attempted murder of two prostitutes who were kidnapped a month apart, driven to the same abandoned dirt lot, assaulted and choked. The first woman was left unconscious on a pile of trash but survived, according to court records. Patrol officers discovered Little in a car with the second woman and arrested him.

The two cases were tried jointly, but the jury failed to reach a verdict. Little later pleaded guilty to lesser charges of assault with great bodily injury and false imprisonment. He served about 2.5 years on a four-year sentence and, in February 1987, he was released on parole. [emphasis added]

Because of their “lifestyles,” Little got off lightly and/or completely for years. And what about the women not reported missing? Or assumed to have gone off on a drug binge or just skipped town?

You should not have to be The Madonna to be taken seriously as a crime victim.

Gun-Toting Boys Wound Woman, Kill Toddler

Sherry West was out walking her son Thursday morning when a pair of juveniles, one around 13 or 14 years of age and the other possibly as young as 10, approached her with a weapon and demanded her money.

“He said, ‘I am going to kill you if you don’t give me your money,’” said West.

When she replied that she wasn’t carrying any money, the older boy reportedly said, “Well, I am going to kill your baby.”

West tried to shield her child with her own body and was shot in the leg. The boy with the gun shot the infant in the head, then he and the other suspect fled on foot.

West’s son died at the scene. No witnesses have come forward and no weapon has been recovered. The boys are still at large.
