In Argument over Double Parking, Both Men Shoot, 1 Wounded, 1 Dead

And the wounded man is a “private patrolman with a license.” And it’s not clear who started shooting first.

Police say the unidentified victim was driving on the 100 block of North Dewey Street shortly before 3 a.m. while a block party was going on. He then pulled up behind another car that was double parked, according to investigators.

Police say the man inside the double parked car, described by officials as a private patrolman with a license from Pennsylvania, then left the vehicle leading to a confrontation between the two men.

Investigators say the patrolman had on a bulletproof vest, a badge and was licensed to carry a weapon. According to police, during the argument the man told the patrolman he was “not a real cop.” Police say both men then began firing shots at each other, though they have not yet revealed who fired first.

“I didn’t know it happened at first. I saw everybody rush out of the house. So when I saw people rush in the house, I knew it was gunfire,” said Nathaniel Tardy, neighbor.

The first man was struck in the chest and died at the scene. The patrolman was also struck but survived the shooting.

Police say they found at least 9 shell casings at the scene.

“She wanted to go back to school and get her high-school diploma after she left nutbucket”: Man Shoots Ex in the Face After Breakup

About an hour later, Hines said, Anthony Rivera tracked [Keira] Aviles-Rivera to a neighbor’s house, where she was helping them unload gifts from the party. There, he allegedly shot Aviles-Rivera in front of neighbors, but she was able to run across the street to her house, with the ex-boyfriend in hot pursuit. That’s when Hines heard screaming coming from inside the home and got up to go see what the ruckus was about. She said she saw Anthony Rivera walk out of the house, hop on his bicycle and ride away calmly.

“He came out like nothing happened,” she said.

Hines said Aviles-Rivera was in her second-floor bedroom bleeding from the face, while the brother was lying on the first floor near the back door. She said both were conscious when medics arrived….

Hines’ mother-in-law, Bernice Hines, lived in the home, which the siblings shared with their mother. She said Aviles-Rivera was trying to get her life together and had been living with Rivera before moving back in with her mother a few days ago.

“She wanted to go back to school and get her high-school diploma after she left nutbucket,” Bernice Hines said, referring to the ex-boyfriend. “You can’t leave nobody that’s obsessed over you like that ’cause they won’t allow you to live nowhere else ’cause in their mind she got somebody else.

“When they do something like that to a woman’s face, they’re trying to disfigure her so no other man will look at her,” she added.

With that tragic-romance headline and the kissy-face picture, you’d think there’d been just a broken window and not attempted murder, not shooting someone in the face. NOT ROMANTIC.

Man Accused of Killing Boyfriend of Estranged Wife in Jealous Rage. NBC Philadelphia, 7/8/2013.

Police say Stefan Curry-Burkett broke into the apartment of his estranged wife on Blackwood-Clementon Road in Pine Hill on Monday around 4:50 a.m. Curry-Burkett allegedly climbed onto a balcony and entered through a sliding glass door.

Once inside, police say Curry-Burkett attacked 26-year-old Michael Cogan and stabbed him to death. Police say Cogan was in a relationship with Curry-Burkett’s estranged wife and was specifically targeted.

“Jealous Rage”? Where’s the lost-it-ness in this story? He broke in and deliberately targeted the man to kill him, not because he was fucking heartbroken. He was an asshole, not forlorn.

I think I need to be disgusted.

Man Tries to Kill Stepdaughter, Shoots at Cops through His Front Door

A woman, who has not been identified, told police she was arguing with her stepfather inside their home on the 900 block of W. Silver Street around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday. During the argument, the stepfather allegedly pushed the woman to the floor. Police say the two then began to fight. After punching her stepfather in the nose, police say the woman went to the living room while the suspect remained on the second floor of the home.

Police say the woman’s cousin, who witnessed the fight, yelled for her to run out of the house. Once outside, police say the woman heard a gunshot coming from inside the home. The woman then saw her stepfather at the door with a gun pointed towards her, according to investigators. The stepfather then allegedly fired one shot at her. The woman ran behind a nearby vehicle to avoid being struck, according to police. Police say a neighbor nearby opened his door and the woman ran inside. The stepfather allegedly fired another shot at the woman but once again missed.

The woman called police who responded to the stepfather’s home. When they arrived, police say the stepfather opened the door, stared at them and then closed the door. He then allegedly fired one shot through the front door as the two officers were standing there. Investigators say the officers took cover behind a nearby vehicle. Police say the suspect then surrendered and was placed under arrest. As they arrested him, police say they also recovered a knife that he was carrying. Neither the responding officers nor the stepdaughter were hurt.

The woman as well as her cousin told police the suspect was highly intoxicated prior to the incident. The suspect was taken into custody….

Former State Trooper in Murder-Suicide in Supermarket

Mark A. Miscavish, who retired from the state police in 2011 after 15 years, killed Traci Miscavish at around 10 a.m. at the County Market in Philipsburg where she worked, authorities said. Police also spelled her first name Tracie.

He was arrested Jan. 23 after Traci Miscavish, who had recently left him, returned to the home to retrieve some belongings, Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said.

Traci Miscavish believed her husband had been abusing prescription drugs and when she went to take them away, he wrestled her to the ground, pinned her arms behind her and attempted to bind her with duct tape, said Parks Miller, whose office was prosecuting him.

He pulled out a gun – a police affidavit said he did not point it at her – and threatened to kill her, but a passer-by saw him trying to drag her back into the home and stopped to help, Parks Miller said. He was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment and spent a week in jail before being bailed out.

Parks Miller said Traci Miscavish lived in fear of her 51-year-old estranged husband and told prosecutors she believed he would harm her further.

“She said, `The next time I see him is going to be at the end of a gun,'” Parks Miller told The Associated Press. …

Traci Miscavish filed for divorce within the past week.

Man Dies of Heart Attack During Wedding Brawls

Police had little information on the wedding fight, which occurred at the Society Hill Sheraton on Second and Walnut streets, but a video posted by a hotel guest to YouTube this morning shows a chaotic scene with guests fighting police and a woman letting out blood-curdling screams.

At least seven police officers can be seen on the video, one of whom repeatedly uses his baton to strike a wedding guest.

The person who took the video, who says that it’s his birthday and he wishes the wedding guests would just go to bed, at one point asks “Did they just deck the bride?”

Police said a 57-year-old guest, reported to be the uncle of the bride, was found unconscious outside of the wedding at 2:06 a.m. He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of a heart attack at 2:51 a.m.
