Man Jumps off Bridge to Avoid DUI Test

The officer asked him to perform field sobriety tests and [Thomas Robert] Harter agreed. He began the first test, [Causeway General Manager Carlton] Dufrechou said, but then “bolted” toward the northern edge of the crossover. One officer managed to grab him, but couldn’t hold on. Harter — wearing jeans, boots and a camouflage T-shirt — dropped 20 feet into the lake and out of sight. The water was rough, with winds between 15 and 20 mph, Dufrechou said.

Causeway bridge jumper booked with DWI for 8th time, Times-Picayune, 3/12/12
