Unarmed Man Stole Police Car, Shot Dead by Police Officer

Police officers were initially called to a disturbance at a food mart near the intersection of Gardendale and Datapoint around 4:30 a.m.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the suspect, a man in his 30s, somehow stole an SAPD patrol unit while officers were investigating and crashed into another car.

Chief McManus said the suspect then approached a female officer in a threatening way and she opened fire, killing the suspect.

Police said it appeared as if the suspect was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
