Family Gone Bad: 8 Family Members Take on 8 Police Officers

One suspect dead, officer wounded.

The fight happened Saturday night after Cottonwood Police Department received a call at 11:52 p.m. from a Cottonwood Walmart reporting that multiple suspects assaulted a female employee in the store, according to a press release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

When officers arrived, the suspects were in the parking lot and attacked the officers, the release said. One suspect was shot and killed during the fight, another was shot in the abdomen, and a total of seven others were taken into custody.

The suspects are from the same family, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves.

A Walmart employee and eight officers were involved in the fight. One officer was shot in the leg and the other seven were left with cuts and bruises.

“My mom and dad have been shot”: Man Kills 7 in Small-Town Shooting Spree

Around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, a 15-year-old girl, wearing only a nightgown and no shoes in near-zero temperatures and with cuts on her legs from running through thickets and hardened snow, pounded on a neighbor’s door.

“She was crying so hard,” the neighbor, who declined to be identified out of concern for his safety, said. “I finally got out of her, ‘My mom and dad have been shot.'”

The girl called 911 from the neighbor’s home. Sigman said that as officers responded to that call, they received word of another shooting.

The victims at both addresses were related to each other, and to Aldridge. Authorities identified them as two couples, Garold Dee Aldridge, 52, and his wife, Julie Ann, 47; and Harold Wayne Aldridge, 50, and his wife, Janell Arlisa, 48. Both men were cousins of Joseph Aldridge, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Kinder.

At some point over the next few hours, Joseph Aldridge killed two more men and another woman at two different locations, Sigman said, and injured another woman. Names of those victims, and details about the woman’s injuries, were not released.

The case took another strange twist when authorities went to the home that Joseph Aldridge shared with his 74-year-old mother, Alice. She was found dead at the home, but apparently of natural causes, authorities said. An autopsy was planned to determine if her death was related to the shooting spree.

She had been under a doctor’s care and appeared to have been dead at least 24 hours, Texas County Coroner Tom Whittaker told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Whittaker speculated that the son “came home and found her deceased and then for whatever reason went on a rampage and started killing people.”

Sigman said many of the residents of Tyrone are Aldridges….

Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, in neighboring Shannon County, some 25 miles from Tyrone, Joseph Aldridge was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted wound inside a GMC pickup. Sigman said the truck was running and in the middle of a two-lane highway.

Around town, Aldridge was described as a recluse, and it was unclear what, if anything, he did for a living.

Baptized in December, Teen Kills Family, Dies after Police Chase and Shootout

Jason C. Hendrix, 16, is believed to have shot and killed his mother, father and sister after a dispute with his parents over computer use before driving from Corbin to the East Coast, where he was killed in a shootout with police in Maryland, Corbin police Chief David Campbell said Sunday.

Baltimore County Police in Maryland confirmed Sunday that it was Hendrix who was shot and killed Saturday.

Hendrix had a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, two .38-caliber pistols, a double-barreled shotgun and backpack “completely full of ammo,” Campbell said in an interview.

Hendrix, a high school Junior ROTC student and active church member, apparently went to a church youth meeting Wednesday night after his family had been slain, Campbell said.

“At a church youth meeting he had told them he had found his dad’s guns,” Campbell said. “He didn’t say if he had them in the vehicle or not.”

Kevin and Sarah Hendrix and daughter Grace were found dead at their Forest Circle Drive home in Corbin on Saturday afternoon.

“All three were shot in the head at least twice,” Campbell said. “A pillow was used to try to muffle the gunshot used on all three individuals. The pillows were still on their faces.”

Police think the victims were gunned down late Wednesday afternoon, Campbell said. The father still had on his sport coat and tie from work. The mother was ambushed as she stepped into the kitchen from the garage after arriving home from work.

Jason Hendrix took his mother’s SUV, Campbell said. Police were uncertain why he chose to drive to Maryland.

The teen “was mad at his parents over the usage of his computer. They had taken his computer rights away,” Campbell told the Herald-Leader.

Drew Mahan, founding pastor of Forward Community Church, which the family attended, said officers questioned him extensively about Jason on Saturday night after discovering the bodies. He described Jason Hendrix as a faithful member of his three-year-old church, which held services at a movie theater.

Hendrix would arrive every Sunday at 7 a.m. to help set up the church’s equipment and was baptized in December.

12-Year Old Survives Family Murder-Suicide, Calls 911

In the quiet of a pre-dawn Saturday on a dead-end street, a father came home and shot his family in their heads, leaving women in three generations dead and a wounded 12-year-old girl calling 911, police said.

“What I did, I cannot come back from,” Jonathon Walker told his brother by phone soon afterward, police said. And Walker did not come back – police said he killed himself in his car on a desolate street a few miles away, ending a burst of violence that stunned relatives who said the family hadn’t shown signs of trouble.

The 34-year-old security guard had killed his 7-year-old daughter, Kayla Walker; his 31-year-old girlfriend, Shantai Hale; and Hale’s mother, Viola Warren, 62. His and Hale’s older daughter, whom a relative identified as Christina Walker, was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The bloody scene unfolded suddenly and quickly – Walker showed up to the home at 5:38 a.m., and his 12-year-old daughter called 911 a few minutes afterward to report that her father had shot the family, Boyce said. When officers arrived three minutes later, Walker was gone.

They searched for his SUV and found it within hours, with Walker’s body and a .45-caliber gun inside, Boyce said.

The victims were found on the home’s floor, he said.

“He just drove off”: Man Throws 5-Year-Old Daughter off Bridge, Kills Her

A Florida man driving toward a bridge over Tampa Bay pulled his car over early Thursday, took his 5-year-old daughter from the back seat, pressed her head to his chest, and tossed her over the rail, according to police in St. Petersburg.

John Nicholas Jonchuck, 25, faces first-degree murder charges. His daughter, Phoebe, fell about 60 feet over the Sunshine Skyway bridge into the bay just after midnight, St. Petersburg police Chief Anthony Holloway said at a news conference.

An officer heading home after his shift saw Jonchuck’s vehicle speed past at nearly 100 mph, Holloway said. The officer prepared to pull the PT Cruiser over, but by the time he caught up with it, Jonchuck had pulled over on the side of the road.

Holloway said Jonchuck got out and started toward the officer, who pulled his weapon. But Jonchuck went around to the passenger side of the car and got the child out.

The officer “thought he heard the child scream, but he wasn’t sure,” Holloway said. The officer then saw the man throw the child over, into the strong bay current.

Her body was recovered about a mile from the bridge and hour and a half later. Rescue crews tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m.

Back on the road, officers said Jonchuck got back in the car and headed south, crossing the bridge on Interstate 275.

“The suspect drove off,” Holloway said. “He just drove off.”

Two other officers who were near the bridge started following Jonchuck into neighboring Manatee County.

Holloway said Jonchuck turned his blinker on and stopped before starting again and driving toward deputies. He then headed the wrong way on the interstate, going back toward the bridge. Deputies put out traffic spikes to stop the vehicle.

Jonchuck was arrested and brought back to St. Petersburg for questioning. He’s being held without bond on the murder charge.

Authorities said Jonchuck filed a domestic violence report against the child’s mother last month, but it wasn’t granted. He had custody of the child, and they lived with his father in Tampa. Authorities didn’t release information about the girl’s mother.

UPDATE: 15-Year Old Shoots Brother Dead, 11-Year-Old Sister “assisted”

Rusty knew there had to be something going on in that house…..

A 15-year-old girl who fatally shot her 16-year-old brother suffered years of abuse, including being locked in a room for weeks at a time with only a blanket and a bucket to use the bathroom, according to police reports and interviews.

The shooting at a small white house off a dirt road in rural north Florida happened Monday while the children’s parents were away for work. The father, a truck driver, and his wife, who often goes with him, left the 16-year-old boy to watch over the 15-year-old, her 11-year-old sister and their 3-year-old sister, police said. The parents left Sunday and were due back Tuesday.

Sometime Monday, the 15-year-old girl was locked in her room by her brother, police said. After the boy fell asleep, she talked her 11-year-old sister into unlocking her door.

The older girl knew her parents kept a pistol in their room, but they had locked their door. So the girl went outside and used a knife to remove an air conditioner from her parents’ bedroom window. She climbed in while her 11-year-old sister kept watch and grabbed the gun out of a pink bag and loaded it, police said.

The girl went back inside the house, telling her young sisters to get in the closet, she told police. She turned her head and fired at her sleeping brother in the living room, and he screamed “Help! Help!”

She buried her head in a pillow for a while and upon returning to the living room, the girl found her 3-year-old sister trying to wake her dead brother, according to the police report.

She fled with her 11-year-old sister, leaving the 3-year-old behind, police said.

The girls’ mother told police that they often locked the 15-year-old girl up when she misbehaved. The longest they kept her locked in her room was 20 consecutive days, the father told police.

In the girl’s room, police found only a blanket and a bucket filled with urine in the closet.

“It was learned that (the 15-year-old girl) has made past attempts at ending her life but neither law enforcement nor (emergency management services) was notified,” police wrote in their report.

Police documents released Wednesday said the girl’s uncle was convicted of molesting her in 2010. They also say the children’s mother discovered the siblings having sex in 2011. Authorities and child welfare officials investigated, but no one was charged.

Why police say they’re not sure of a motive is sheer stupidity.

Misty “Ariel” Renee Kornegay and her 11-year-old sister Nicole were arrested Monday night and are charged in the death of their 16-year-old brother.

Their parents, Keith and Misty, were also arrested on child neglect charges.

The Sheriff’s Office said 15-year-old Misty “Ariel” Renee Kornegay admitted she shot her 16-year-old brother, then walked away from the home with her 11-year-old sister, Nicole, leaving their 3-year-old sister at home.

Deputies said the shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. at 1205 Sophie Drive in the north part of the county, not far from White Springs.

White Springs police saw the girls walking and stopped them. When officers learned of the homicide, they called the Sheriff’s Office to the scene. Deputies found the brother dead on the living room floor from a single gunshot.

Investigators said the parents were out of town and Ariel Kornegay (pictured left with Nicole, right) retrieved the handgun used in the shooting from the parents’ bedroom. They have not revealed a motive.

After the parents, Keith Kornegay, 37, and 33-year-old Misty Kornegay, returned to town, they were questioned by investigators and were arrested on child neglect charges, accused of failing to properly supervise the children.

Columbia County, which didn’t have a single murder last year, was rocked by the murder.

Sheriff’s office deputies were dispatched to the Kornegay’s White Springs home, whereupon they found the body of the girl’s 16-year-old brother, Damien Kornegay, sprawled out on the living room floor. He had been shot one time and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that earlier in the evening the 15-year-old sister of the deceased retrieved a handgun from their parents’ bedroom and used it to shoot her brother,” said Smith.

Nicole Kornegay’s role in the shooting remains unclear. Smith would only say that she “assisted her 15-year-old sister” in the commission of the crime.

Man Kills Father over $100 (or $200) Reduction in His Weekly Allowance

Detectives believe the elder Gilbert was killed by his son, who then left the murder weapon — a .40 caliber Glock 22 — in the bedroom to make it look like a suicide.

“The gun was resting on his chest with his left hand covering it,” NYPD Chief of Investigations Robert Boyce said at a press conference. He described it as a “staged crime scene.”

Police said the son entered his parents’ Beekman Place home Sunday afternoon and asked his mother to get him a sandwich.

Boyce said that the mother “had a bad feeling” after leaving the two men alone together and decided to return to the apartment, but when she came back she found her husband shot in the head in his bedroom.

Investigators told ABC News that the father recently discussed no longer paying his son’s rent. They also say he discussed reducing his weekly allowance from $400 per week to $300.

Off-Duty Cop Kills Son, Who Wanted to Be a Cop, on Christmas Eve

An off-duty PBSO deputy shot and killed one of his own relatives on Christmas Eve, but police are mum on details, releasing only minimum info about the victim — a 21-year-old named Khamis Shatara, who apparently wanted to be a cop.

The shooting happened in Delray Beach, and the deputy has been detained by that city’s police department, reported WPTV. For two days after the shooting, the name of the deputy who took his own relative’s life was not released by police or the local TV news station, which says it’s withholding it out of respect for the family. That kind of courtesy is not usually given to regular, nonpolice folks arrested for crimes, but hey — it’s Christmas.

However, late Friday afternoon, Sgt. Nicole Guerriero confirmed to New Times that the name of the deputy who killed his son is Shatara K. Shatara.

As for the victim, Khamis Shatara appears to have been a criminal justice major at Palm Beach State College who idolized police.

19-Year Old Kills, Dumps 5-Year-Old Cousin, Reports Him Kidnapped

Tiffany VanAlstyne’s bogus 911 call on Thursday afternoon set off a search for Kenneth White that lasted into the night, authorities said. A search dog picked up a scent at about 9 p.m., and Kenneth’s body was found in a culvert, covered with snow VanAlstyne used in a bid to hide the crime, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said.

VanAlstyne’s parents have been the legal guardians of Kenneth, his twin sister Cheyenne, and 4-year-old sister Christine since September, and the children had lived in the home for more than a year. Apple said he did not believe the other children were in the room where White was attacked.

VanAlstyne strangled the boy and tossed his body “like a piece of trash” over a guard rail along a rural two-lane road about 40 yards from the trailer home in the town of Berne sometime before making the 911 call just after 1 p.m. Thursday, Apple said. The child had also suffered a blow to the head.

The 911 call touched off a search that included an Amber Alert describing the kidnappers as two men, clad all in black and driving a black pickup truck.

But Apple said the interrogation of VanAlstyne and others began to yield contradictions that threw the abduction story into doubt.

“Things did not start to add up,” he said, and investigators got a warrant to return to the home, about 23 miles southeast of Albany.

The children’s mother lives in Amsterdam, west of Albany, and the father in Massachusetts. Authorities would not say why the children had been place in the care of their aunt, Brenda VanAlstyne.
